Why do plants bend towards the light?
Have you ever wondered why the money plant in your house turns
more towards the light source? It is a type of tropic movement observed in
plants. Tropic movements are the movements of plants in response to
environmental stimuli. The phenomenon of growing towards light is called
phototropism.
Tropic movements of plants differ from nastic movements of
plants. In tropic movements, growth occurs towards the stimuli, however, in
nastic movements, the plant moves away from the stimuli. Hormones are
responsible for tropic movements, whereas nastic movements are due to turgor
pressure.
